Career Counseling: The Indian Skills Crisis Needs Time
Career counseling is a process of expertly informed, insightful and educational guidance that helps students understand and understand themselves and also gives them the options they need to make academic, career and life decisions. Career counselors have been in demand in recent years as parents and students feel the need to make informed decisions about their future.
During school, a student arrives at home with a narrow view,
familiarizing himself with a select few of the countless areas of work. Then
they are bombarded with options that they either don't think much of or don't
think about. This is where career counseling comes in handy. As a pastor who
has never sought any kind of advice, we have not provided the guidance, the
beacon, the guidance that our young generation desperately needs.
In the Annual World Happiness Report 2021, India is ranked
139th out of 149 countries. And of the many factors contributing to the current
low happiness index, job dissatisfaction can be a major factor. The biggest
issue with the Indian population has been that we choose to limit ourselves to
the narrow range of opportunities to which we are accustomed.
The field of education is also constantly changing in the
last decade. The introduction of smart classrooms, online / digital learning,
national education policy, etc. has paved the way for a bright future. As
technology has evolved over time, new technologies, and ways to integrate
education and technology have emerged. One of the main reasons for these
changes is easy access to psychological tests that have been used in various
capacities for many years. Psychometric tests are a means of objectively
assessing, measuring, and identifying a person's personality traits, abilities,
intelligence, skills, cognitive abilities, and behavioral styles. They are
increasingly being used in career counseling to match students and staff to
acceptable careers or roles. , Career counselors are using such tests to
determine a student's full potential, innate skills and interests. Mental
measurement is the key to self-realization. A self-aware person understands
their personality traits; it helps to set goals and also needs to hone the
right skills to achieve the goals.
India's greatest asset is that we are one-fifth of the world's youth population. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, this population will be beneficial to us by 2055, if properly sourced. However, companies are facing a shortage of suitable candidates, thanks to the skills gap as new professions are added and existing professional roles are changing. Existing employees will have to upgrade themselves to adapt to those dynamic roles. The younger generation should be aware of the myriad, unknown career opportunities. They need to understand themselves and make choices with the help of online career counseling experts.
